Boeing suspends production of 737 Max planes until 2020

Boeing has suspended production of 737 Max planes after accidents this year which saw the company grounded by Federal Aviation Administration.

The company made the announcement after FAA said the review of the company’s planes would continue next year.

This will see the company count more losses since their planes have been grounded since March.

Two of the company’s plane were involved in fatal crashes which saw more than 300 people killed.

Despite the grounding, Boeing had continued to build the 737 Max, its bestselling jet, although at a slower pace with the hope to get approval for the plane to fly again late this year.

However, it is now unclear when the 737 Max will be allowed to return to service.

According to CNBC, Boeing has produced 400 more of the jetliners and the company said halting production would help it deliver the stored planes when the grounding is lifted.

They further reported that the company will however not lay off its workers, at the Renton factory where the 737 Max is produced during the production pause with around 12,000 workers temporarily reassigned.

In a report, FAA stated that the process of approving the plane will be ‘thorough and robust’ to ensure that the public have confidence with the planes.

“We know that the process of approving the 737 Max’s return to service, and of determining appropriate training requirements, must be extraordinarily thorough and robust, to ensure that our regulators, customers, and the flying public have confidence in the 737 Max updates,” Boeing said in a statement.
