Business mogul Sachen Gudka is
expected to leave his role as a director of the board of Kenya Power when his
current term expires at the start of December.
Mr. Gudka, an industrialist, has
given notice of his resignation with effect from December 3 when Kenya Power
stages its Annual General Meeting (AGM).
He will be vacating the board
just 17 months after joining it in July 2020.
His stay on the board led by
Chairperson Vivienne Yeda has been marked by turmoil with the board striving to
steer the company back to a profitable footing by pushing drastic and
far-reaching reforms.
Early this year for instance,
Kenya Power staff opposed to the operations of the new board accused certain members
including Gudka of overreach in implementing their roles at the company.
The staff members wanted the
board sent home but later dropped the push following a meeting with management
that also included the Ministry of Energy.
Other Kenya Board members whose
roles lapse have however offered themselves for re-election at the upcoming
AGM.
These include Chairperson
Vivienne Yeda, Caroline Kittony-Waiyaki and Eng. Elizabeth Rogo.
Kenya Power’s board audit
committee members are also up for re-election and include Elizabeth Rogo,
Caroline Kittony and Humphrey Muhu.
Sachen Gudka is a graduate of Economics
from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a chartered accountant.
He is the Chairman, CEO and
Director at multiple printing companies including Chrome Partners Limited, the
Print Exchange Limited, Skanem Interlabels Nairobi Limited, Armor East Africa
Imaging Supplies Limited and Flexo World Limited.
He is also the immediate former
Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
