The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) will extend the operating hours of
the Kenya Electronic Payment and Settlement System (KEPSS) starting July 1st,
this year.
This system is used to process large and urgent money
transfers between banks in real time. It will now operate from 7am to
7pm on weekdays, from the current 8:30am to 4:30pm schedule.
CBK says the change will ease high-value and time-sensitive
payments across banks, businesses, and government agencies, supporting the
country’s shift toward a 24/7 digital economy.
The longer operating hours are expected to improve cash
flow, reduce end-of-day transaction risks, and expand access to financial
services.
The move aligns Kenya with global best practices in
modernising payment systems.
