Energy Regulator Shuts Down Nine Petrol Stations for Selling Adulterated Fuels

Nairobi County had the highest number of affected petrol stations with six outlets being closed.

This came even as the country continues to grapple with the effects of fuel shortage with several fuel stations unable to cater for motorists’ needs.

According to ERC, Nairobi County had the most number of fuel stations selling adulterated fuel to unsuspecting motorists.

Over the first quarter of 2015, ERC embarked on carrying out tests in over 1,000 petroleum outlets.

The energy regulator monitored petroleum outlets countrywide and exposed ten sites in  seven counties as non-compliant and in violation of selling adulterated fuel.

Affected petrol stations include Petkey in Kasarani, Anointed Petrol Station in Meru county, Trans Highway Service Station in Eldoret and Nguvu Service Station in Kisumu among others.

Respective county commissioners have been requested to withdraw the licenses of the non-compliant petroleum outlets.
