Equity Group has named Samuel Kirubi as its new Group Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Kirubi has been promoted from his current role as Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda.

He has been with the lender since 2001 rising through the ranks to serve in various managerial roles including COO for Equity South Sudan and Managing Director Equity Bank Rwanda.

During his tenure in Uganda, Kirubi has been credited with turning around the loss-making unit to the country’s fifth most profitable bank.

In his new position, Kirubi will be tasked with enhancing the group’s capacity to deliver on its strategy by aligning people, processes, systems, commercial business and business risk to customers’ aspirations.

“The board has expressed confidence in Kirubi’s capability, experience and deep knowledge of the transition culture in taking up this responsibility at a critical time of the bank’s growth and expansion,” said Equity Group Managing Director Dr James Mwangi.

Prior to joining Equity as a staff member, Samuel Kirubi was part of Equity Group’s pioneer interns under the Equity Leaders Program (ELP).

He holds an Economics and Statistics Degree from Egerton University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Moi University.
