Fairmont Norfolk reopens doors after COVID-19 forced close

Nairobi’s iconic hotel- Fairmont the Norfok has reopened its doors, nearly two years on since its COVID-19 led closure in May 2020.

The establishment reopens after renovations which have included the redesign of its lounge bar and restaurant.

The hotel is also set to open doors to new facilities including an in-house restaurant and a spa.

The managers to the Accor run establishment state they look forward to the resumptions of operations after the 23-month hiatus.

“We are looking forward to making Fairmont Norfolk the place to be for social moments, business meetings and intimate events,” stated Accor Country General Manager and General Manager Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Kenya Mehdi Morad said.

Fairmont Norfolk’s sister hotel- the Fairmont Mount Kenya is subsequently set to reopen in June.

The reopening of the two hotels underlines the continued recovery of the hospitality industry from the COVID-19 fallout.

Last week, for instance, Global Hotel brand Radisson Blu, UpperHill announced the planned re-opening of the hotel under new management on May 9.

The recovery of the industry has moreover been reinforced by a new Hotels Survey by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) from which all respondents had resumed operations with indicators pointing to the gradual restart of establishments closed for none COVID-19 related reasons.

According to the survey, bed occupancy topped 57 per cent in March, the highest rate since the start of the pandemic.

Hotels in Mombasa recorded the highest occupancy rate at 67.5 per cent having benefited from the schools holiday.
