Software solutions provider Solutech Limited, in partnership with Tech Sisters Kenya, has hosted a mentorship program aimed at bridging the gender gap in the technology sector.

The initiative follows the recent #CodeConnectMentor coding challenge, which brought together 20 young women from Tech Sisters Kenya at Solutech’s offices.

Fifteen participants took part in the competition, showcasing coding skills and creative problem-solving.

At the end of the event, three top performers were selected to join a three-month mentorship program at Solutech beginning in September.

Solutech says the program will provide hands-on training, practical guidance, and networking opportunities with experienced developers at the firm.

“Through a structured approach, Solutech mentors will walk alongside participants, ensuring that by the end of the program, they are equipped with knowledge, clarity on their strengths, and the confidence to make an impact in the tech community,” the software company said.

The initiative comes against the backdrop of the persistent underrepresentation of women in science and technology. Globally, women account for less than 35 percent of STEM students, according to UNESCO, while only about 17 percent of ICT specialists in sub-Saharan Africa are female.

In Kenya, women make up roughly 20–25 percent of students in computer science programs, with fewer progressing into long-term careers.

By linking young women to mentorship and workplace exposure, Solutech and Tech Sisters Kenya hope to contribute to narrowing the gender gap in Kenya’s technology sector while strengthening the pipeline of future talent.

Industry observers note that such mentorship efforts are increasingly becoming part of corporate strategies to address workforce diversity and skills shortages in the region’s growing digital economy.
