The recent ISO 9001 certification awarded to vehicle import firm Cars Kenya is being viewed as a significant step toward improving trust and standards in Kenya’s vehicle importation industry.

As the first company in the sector to receive the globally recognised certification, Cars Kenya is setting a new benchmark in an industry often criticised for delays, hidden costs and inconsistent service delivery.

ISO 9001 is an international standard for quality management systems. It requires companies to demonstrate efficiency, transparency, customer focus and continuous improvement—verified through strict independent audits.

For consumers, the certification is particularly important. Importing a vehicle is a major financial decision, yet many Kenyans face uncertainty over pricing, timelines and documentation. By adopting ISO standards, Cars Kenya is expected to offer more structured processes, clearer communication and reduced risks.

Managing Director Sammy Wanjema said the certification reflects the company’s commitment to professionalism and reliability.

“This milestone is about giving our clients confidence that every step of the importation process meets international standards,” he said.

Industry analysts say the move could help restore confidence in the sector while encouraging other players to adopt similar standards. This could gradually reduce disputes and improve accountability across the market.

The certification also positions the company to enhance efficiency and strengthen partnerships with global suppliers, potentially improving service delivery for customers.

With demand for imported vehicles remaining strong in Kenya, experts say such quality benchmarks could play a key role in transforming the sector into a more transparent and customer-focused industry.

As more firms embrace global standards, motorists could benefit from a more predictable and trustworthy vehicle importation process.
