JamboJet to offer in-flight advertising to boost revenue

Low cost carrier, Jambojet, has ventured into a new avenue of revenue generation after partnering with Global Onboard Partners (GOBP) to offer in-flight advertising space.

The move that takes effect end August, will see advertisers offering their products and services on-board hence generating ancillary revenue for the airline.

Jambojet Chief Executive Officer, Willem Hondius, said the partnership will allow for quality advertising to an audience of over half a million passengers over the course of a year signaling a direct boost in profits.

“This partnership opens up a new revenue opportunity for the airline. We are happy to offer this new medium on advertising using Global Onboard Partners Technology on our aircrafts. We are constantly looking for opportunities such as this one that enable us to generate non-ticket revenue,” said Mr. Hondius.

The low cost brand of Kenya Airways has been in operation for two years and is the first brand in Africa to partner with the aircraft advertizing space provider.

GOBP Chief Executive Officer, Kirk Adams, said the company offers advertising services and programs to every type of airline brands regardless of class and size.

“Onboard advertising is one of the few mediums where brands have the full undistracted attention of highly desirable, consumers in a calm, distraction-free environment. We are thrilled to have Jambojet join the Global Onboard Partners’ family of airlines worldwide.  With the addition of Jambojet, we are able to continue our expansion and effectively reach more than 350 million consumers annually,” Mr. Adams said.

Jambojet currently flies to Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Ukunda and Lamu towns and is keen on promoting the local tourism sector.

The carrier set a regional record in 2016 by handling over 1,000,000 customers in less than two years.

A few weeks back, Jambojet launched a digital pre-departure notification system that allows the airline to communicate with customers’ pre-flight information via email and SMS.
