KEBS retains Japanese firm QISJ for pre-import checks

The
Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has retained Japanese firm Quality Inspection
Inc. (QISJ) for pre-export verification of conformity (PVoC) services.
The
firm will continue to offer the services on the pre-import checks which covers
goods including used motor vehicles, mobile equipment and used vehicle parts in
Japan, United Arab Emirates (UAE), United Kingdom, Thailand and South Africa.
The
term of QISJ has been renewed for a three-year term effective from August 19.
QISJ
will also carry out PVoC services in Singapore over the same period.
Goods
eligible for the PVoC and imported from the respective countries will require
to be accompanied by certificates of roadworthiness (CoRs) or certificates of
conformity (CoCs) issued by QISJ.
Imports
that fail to bear the certificates will be subjected to destination inspection
at a fee equivalent to five per cent of the approved custom values.
KEBS which is mandated to offer the PVoC services deploys contracted inspection services.
