KenGen to increase number of dams to boost electricity production

The Kenya Electricity Generation Company, KenGen, plans to increase the number of dams that generate electricity along the seven forks in a move aimed at boosting the country’s power grid.

KenGen says ongoing feasibility studies have identified potential areas of hydro-electric power generation at Karura and Mutonga.

KenGen assistant operations Manager Eastern hydro Samson Kimani says Karura between Kindaruma and Kiambere dams will have a capacity to generate an additional 60MW of hydro-power.

Construction of more dams is expected to boost the current hydro-electric power grid that stands at over 800MW from all the seven folks dams.
