Kenya Pipeline probing fuel theft on Nakuru-Kisumu pipeline

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) and police probing illegal siphoning of fuel from Nakuru-Kisumu pipeline by a petrol station in Koru, Muhoroni.

In a circular to newsrooms, KPC Joe Sang said that the company was alerted about the leakage Friday morning, and they mobilised teams to address the matter.

“On Friday, KPC officials discovered an illegal connection with a network of pipes leading to a petrol station labeled Hess Energy Kenya some 100 metres away. Initial finding is that the adjacent home and petrol station was leased. The tenant had illegally connected siphoning equipment to the pipeline running underground piping through the house to storage tanks at the petrol station,” read the statement.

Stating that the leakage has been fully contained, Sang said fuel availability in the region has not been affected.

He stated that a probe into the fuel theft was underway, adding that his team was working closely with the police in the investigation.

“Devices used for siphoning and product transfer are in the custody of the DCIO and the County Commissioner. KPC’s security is closely following the investigations and a comprehensive report will be issued once investigations are concluded,” read the statement.
