Lufthansa to start Mombasa tourist flights in July

German based carrier Lufthansa is expected to commence tourist flights to Mombasa on July 24, 2021.

The flights will run on the airline’s new leisure carrier Eurowings Discover and comprise of two weekly flight services between Frankfurt and Mombasa with onward flights to Zanzibar.

The announcement on the launch of flights has nevertheless been delayed from March by COVID-19 related disruptions to global aviation.

“As more countries begin to relax their travel restrictions, we are seeing an increased demand of people yearning to travel, relax and explore,” said Lufthansa General Manager for Southern and East Africa André Schulz.

Further, Lufthansa says it will expand the new service to a frequency of four times a week from June 2022.

“Along with this increased frequency, we are able to expand our destination portfolio, by adding a double weekly tag flight from Mombasa to Kilimanjaro, whilst continuing our double weekly tag flights from Mombasa to Zanzibar,” added Mr. Schulz.

The Lufthansa Group sees the East Africa as an integral part of its future growth and plans to increase its footprint in the region.
