NMS to conduct trial run ahead of launch of Green Park bus terminus
The Nairobi
Metropolitan Services (NMS) is set to conduct a two-phased trial run ahead of the operationalization of the Green Park bus terminus later this
month.
The NMS will conduct
the test run on Wednesday, 22nd June from 5am.
The service has
said the test run will assess the possibility of implementing the gradual
removal of matatus from CBD to the new terminus.
Speaking during a
stakeholders meeting, the Director of Transport and Public Works Eng. Michael
Ochieng’ said the first test run will involve PSVs terminating at Railways Station while the second will involve
Matatus plying Ngong and Lang’ata roads.
“We will start the
operation of the Green Park Terminus this month in two phases. These phases
will be trial runs and all vehicles in the Railway station will operate on a
trial basis,” said Eng. Michael Ochieng’
To avoid confusion
and traffic snarl up as witnessed during the previous trial runs, NMS will use
their reinforcement officers who will be positioned at the correct points to
ensure seamless flow of traffic within the CBD.
“Our teams will
position themselves at the correct points within the CBD to do the rehearsal.
We expect that there should be seamless flow both to the customers and to the
operators,” said Eng. Ochieng’
All PSVs that
operated from the Nairobi Railway Station stage will be dropping passengers at
the terminus upon its completion.
This includes
matatus from Ngong, Kibera, Rongai
and Dagoretti.
All PSVs from
Mombasa Road (South B, South C, Industrial Area, Imara Daima, Athi River, Kitengela, Machakos) will terminate at another
new terminus at the junction of Bunyala and Workshop road.
The Muthurwa
terminus is expected to remain as it serves PSVs from Jogoo and Lusaka roads.
