Rai-owned Sukari Industry to resume operations after workers end strike

Billionaire Jaswant Rai owned Sukari Industry Limited based at Riat Trading Center in Ndhiwa Sub County is expected to resume operations on Monday after a four-day worker’s strike.

The workers had downed their tools on Thursday demanding citing poor salary, discrimination on payments, and poor working conditions among other issues which have paralyzed the normal operations at the company.

Addressing the press after a consultative meeting, the company’s head of human resource Edward Mungatana says the issues raised by the workers are of significance to the workforce of the company and must be addressed.

Mungatana said they held a meeting with workers' representatives, security team and political leaders to address the matters raised and agreed that the workers should call off their strike and report to work tomorrow morning.

They came up with a return-to-work formula which will be used as the factory is expected to start operations.

Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino and Kanyikela ward MCA Wanjala Kasere who held a meeting with the workers said they will not allow the company to exploit the workers and called on the management to listen to their grievances.

Owino said he will ask the National Assembly to investigate operations at the factory after getting a petition from workers, that he will present to the speaker of the House who will then assign a committee to look into the claims.
