Safaricom kicks off city by city network pilot in Ethiopia

Safaricom Ethiopia has begun its phased city by city customer network pilot in Dire Dawa.

The telco has launched its large scale customer pilot and rigorous service tests geared towards its national launch later in the year.

Dire Dawa city residents will now have access to Safaricom Ethiopia’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The customers can also purchase SIM cards and choose their preferred numbers on Safaricom Ethiopia’s 07 prefix.

“The SIM Cards will be available in the branded shops or souks and come with a welcome offer of Data, Voice and SMS for customers to test and experience the network for one month,” read a statement from Safaricom Ethiopia.

The telcos customers will also be able to actively purchase airtime vouchers to recharge their airtime balance to continue using services on the network.

The network allows customers use of data services, make calls and send SMS to Safaricom Ethiopia.

Safaricom Ethiopia now says there are three shops in Kezira, Meskelegna and Cornell areas will be open to the public for customer registration, purchase of devices as well as customer care support.

Customer service will also be available in their preferred language, including Amharic, English, Tigrigna, Afaan Oromo and Af-Somali.
