Safaricom to pay Ksh30 billion dividend in August

Telco operator Safaricom says it will pay its dividend of Ksh30.8 billion or Ksh0.75 per share to its shareholders by August 31.

The Telco, in a notice for the upcoming Annual General Meeting, said it will close its books for the dividend on July 29 when it will hold its AGM.

“The dividend will be payable on or before August 31, 2022, or to the shareholders on the register of members as at close of business on July 29, 2022,” read the notice.

The telco will pay its shareholders a total of Ksh55.6 billion or Ksh1.39 per share up from Ksh54.8 billion or Ksh1.37 per share maintaining its dividend policy despite huge investment in Ethiopia that weighed the telco’s profitability.

The Treasury will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the dividend announcement with a gross payout of Ksh19.4 billion for its 35 per cent stake.

Multinationals Vodacom Group Limited and Vodafone PLC will share a gross payout of Ksh22.2 billion for their combined 40 per cent interest in the Nairobi Stock Exchange-listed company.
