Tad Motors has officially stepped into Kenya’s electric
vehicle arena with the launch of its first EV line, unveiled during a
high-profile ceremony in Nairobi.
The event, held on November 27, drew an influential mix of
government officials, diplomats, investors, and technology partners who
gathered to witness what many described as a defining moment for the country’s
mobility future.
Foreign Affairs Principal
Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’Oei delivered the keynote address, calling on the
global investment community to take note of Kenya’s rising innovation
landscape.
“Kenya is open for investment. We are creating an enabling
environment where ideas like Tad Motors can scale across the continent and
beyond,” he emphasized, underscoring the country’s ambition to become a
continental hub for clean mobility.
The Embassy of South Sudan was
represented by Ambassador Ida, who spoke passionately about deepening regional
cooperation.
She noted that Africa’s progress depends on countries working
together and celebrating shared ambitions, saying, “Innovation knows no borders
— and neither should cooperation.”
UNEP’s Programme Officer for
Sustainable Mobility, Alexander Koerner, added a global environmental lens to
the conversation by highlighting the urgency of transitioning to greener
transport solutions.
“Shifting to electric vehicles is not just innovation — it’s a
climate imperative,” he noted, aligning Tad Motors’ mission with global climate
commitments.
Tad Motors CEO Eng. Tadesse
Tessema expressed gratitude to the partners and policymakers who supported the
company’s journey to launch day.
“We’re humbled and energized by the support from our partners,
innovators, and community who made this day possible,” he said, adding that the
government’s backing has been crucial.
“The Kenyan government’s continued support for sustainable
industrialization has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”
Guests at the event were
introduced to the company’s flagship EV range, including premium urban cruisers
(Dhahabu), mid-size family cars (Taji), compact eco-friendly models (Amani),
luxury executive vehicles (Fahari), and rugged utility designs (Makena)—each
tailored to Africa’s diverse transport needs.
The display signaled Tad Motors’ intention not just to
manufacture vehicles, but to redefine mobility through locally driven
innovation and sustainability.
The company says this launch marks only the beginning, with
plans to scale production across Africa through strategic partnerships, local
assembly, and continued investment in green technology.
