Two large models of rockets lie on metal pillars, all under continuous development.
This is a dream Awimbo has harboured for a decade now, looking to become the first Kenyan innovator to build working rockets from scratch.
"I have been doing this for over 10 years now. I did not study this in school; it is all passion," Awimbo says.
Passion indeed. From studying the American billionaire Elon Musk's space exploits and explorations, Awimbo wants to do something for Kenya. For now, he is building models that could be used to advance space science in the country.
"I target schools mostly. In collaboration, I go to schools and teach students on space science and exploration, to help them become future scientists and astronauts," Awimbo adds.
He builds his rockets using locally obtained materials such as steel and aluminium. Awimbo mostly learns through YouTube videos.
He looks forward to building a recreational centre where interested Kenyans can visit and launch rockets themselves.
"I'm working closely with the Kenya Space Agency to find areas of collaboration and guidance. We are in constant contact, and we hope that soon we will be able to advance my innovation. I want to help advance Kenya's space exploration," an optimistic Awimbo says.
