Stephen Otieno, who goes by the nickname ‘Useful Idioty’, prefers to refer to himself as an entertainer, and not a content creator.

“I like putting a smile on the faces of people,” says Useful Idioty.

But why Idioty? Of all the names…

“I got the name while back in campus. I remember I used to wear this T-shirt which had the writing ‘idiot’ stamped on it,” Idioty told Citizen Digital.

Comrades at the university would henceforth christen him the ‘Idiot’ – a nick name that would later evolve to ‘Useful Idioty’.

Idioty always wanted to be a priest.

“This is what I always wanted to be, a priest. But my mother often wondered how I could hack it as a priest when all I did was crack jokes,” says Idioty, who studied Public Health at the University.

“I used to make memes while at the university, which would go viral, but people didn’t know me,” he says – adding that this is what set the foundation.
