High-flying Nigerian musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has won the 'Best International Act' award at the 2023 edition of the Black Entertainment Awards - BET.

The ‘African Giant’ crooner beat the likes of Nigeria's Ayra Starr, UK's Central Cee and UK's Stormzy, among others to clinch the most coveted category of BET awards.

The ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theatre, in Los Angeles, California.

Though present at the show when he was announced the winner, his 'momager' Bose Ogulu, received the award on his behalf.

Burna Boy's 2022 album ‘Love, Damini’ became a worldwide success, spawning the runaway hit 'Last Last'.

Other nominees in the category included Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Central Cee, Ella Mai, K.O, L7nnon, Stormzy, Tiakola and South African Amapiano sensation Uncle Waffles.

With his victory, Burna Boy extended his record as the most awarded person in the BET Awards 'Best International Act' category (4).

He won the award for three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2021).

Since the creation of the BET Awards’ Best International Act' in 2018, Nigerians have exclusively won the category. Davido was the maiden winner.

Rising Nigerian music star, Tems won the 'Best International Act' last year.

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer, Asake lost the 'Best New International' award to Cameroonian star, Libianca last night.

Libianca is famous for her smash hit 'People'.
