CAS Mwangangi’s new hair style has people talking

The youthful CAS, who is among the Ministry officials who have kept Kenyans abreast with the latest on the COVID-19 pandemic, appeared to have chopped her hair before dyeing it platinum blonde. 

During the Wednesday press briefing, the CAS announced that 840,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine had expired, and a million more would expire in three weeks. 

But not even the dreary news could beat the new conversation starter; her new hairdo. 

Exit the weaves, wigs and the braids. Enter the short -cropped hair dyed to the roots in blonde. The Kenya Kylie Richards. 

Ms Mwangangi is proving that she can do it all;  from the braids and the weaves to the natural hair and all the styles I’m too poorly versed to list down. 

Since the pandemic was first reported in the country, Dr Mwangangi commanded attention; from the Afya House where the Health Ministry is domiciled, to households across the nation, and even Twitter where she became an online sensation. 

When it was not about her different hairstyles, or knack for fashion, Ms Mwangangi held viewers captive, with her excellent command of the Queen’s language. 

Indeed, in the past two years, and on a near-daily basis, hers has been a face synonymous with the fight against COVID-19 in Kenya.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) School of Medicine-alumni started her career like many other doctors as an intern at Machakos Level V hospital in 2010, having graduated in 2009.

She was appointed District Medical Health Officer in Meru South at the age of 23. After completing her master's degree in Australia, she joined the ministry as a technical advisor for primary healthcare.

Dr. Mwangangi has gone from being a little-known administrator at the ministry to being the most well-known CAS in government right now, and she believes her career has only just begun.
