“Never make a promise you can’t
keep.”
Despite the fact that the author of the
aforementioned adage remains anonymous, the line has for the longest time had a
somewhat binding effect on people who intend to keep their promises.
For Connie and her husband Dolla Kabarry, the
saying couldn’t be more binding as the couple, following an earlier promise
made to their daughter Sherryl Kabarry, gifted the girl a Ksh.6 million Toyota
Land Cruiser for scoring 413 marks in the recently concluded KCPE exams.
"Mum and dad you promised me so much; I
have done my part, got you 400 and above that you asked for please fulfill your
promises,” Connie, Sherryl’s mother, said in a Facebook post as she remembered
her daughter’s demands.
“The things we promise our kids thinking they
won't deliver. We must deliver... stay tuned and wait for the gifts, you
deserve everything we promised you my sweet angel Sheryl.”
In a video seen by Citizen Digital, Sherryl,
can be seen enthusiastically appreciating her new vehicle which was being
driven by her popular Benga musician father Dolla whose birth name is Kevin
Omondi.
A subsequent video posted by Connie also
shows Sherryl, who went to Kitengela International School, signing the warranty
receipt of a Samsung phone she had asked her parents to get her if she passed
the 400 points mark.
The phone manufacturer allegedly also gifted
Sherryl ear pods worth Ksh.16,000 for her remarkable performance in this year’s
exams.
“We had to keep our promises just like she did.
Parents let's learn to keep our promises, promise what you can afford otherwise
utafinywaa. Thanks so much Samsung for gifting our Daughter Sheryl with Ear
pods. We are happy,” Connie added.
