Bahati in tears after being asked to drop bid for Mathare MP seat

Kenyan artist Kevin Bahati has expressed his displeasure after being pressured to abandon his Mathare parliamentary campaign in favor of current MP Anthony Oluoch.

After winning the recently concluded party nominations, Bahati was given the green light to run for the Mathare constituency on the Jubilee party ticket.

He claimed he has been asked to withdraw his candidacy because the area is zoned for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) while addressing the media on Monday.

In a video obtained by Citizen Digital, Bahati sobbed as he begged ODM leader Raila Odinga to intervene and allow him to run for the seat, claiming that he is also a member of the Azimio la Umoja team.

"I am also in Azimio and this certificate here in not only Bahati but it represents many other youths, this is a sign of hope. I respect my president and Raila Odinga but please give the youth of this country chance," he said.

"I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time give the people of Mathare to choose the leader they have always wanted."

Bahati also stated that if he does not appear on the ballot ahead of the August elections, Mathare constituents will be denied the opportunity to vote for their leader.

"I did not come to politics because I wanted a job I already had one but the people of Mathare want people that can understand their problem someone that comes from them.
