A few days ago, word went round that gospel artist Alpha Mwana Mtule had passed away by suicide.

Alpha quickly became a trending topic on social media, with many people sending in their condolences messages.

The fake news was further amplified by former Starehe MP and singer Charles Kanyi, aka Jaguar, who claimed the singer had taken his own life.

However, comedian YY who is friends with Alpha, quickly took to social media to clarify that the singer had not died, but he was hospitalised.

And now Alpha has come out to narrate circumstances leading to the spread of the fake news of his death.

In an interview with Youtuber Nicholas Kioko, Alpha narrated how he was poisoned in a gig he had been invited to in Rongai, which almost ended his life.

The singer said he had been invited by an unknown person to perform at the event, when he was offered food that had been poisoned.

It was while he was leaving the event at around 11pm when he started feeling unwell, and by the time he got to his house he was throwing up and bleeding from his nose.

The singer who looked weak throughout the interview said it took the efforts of the neighbours to rush him to hospital, albeit a little late, but medics were able to save his life.

How then did Jaguar conclude that he had tried to kill himself?

Alpha says when he realised he had been poisoned, he called Jaguar's producer and told him the news. Unfortunately, the producer assumed Alpha had taken the poison by himself, and passed the information to Jaguar.

The singer denied that he had tried to kill himself, saying he has come a long way as a street kid and had gone through so much, and suicide is not an option in his life.

Alpha says he has since recorded a statement with the police about the poisoning, and remembers only one face from the event in Rongai.

He adds that despite not being financially stable, he will keep pushing through music and skits to make ends meet.
