Comedian Dr Ofweneke, born Sande Bush, has intimated that he may soon also toss his hat into the political ring.
Dr Ofweneke, speaking during an interview on
Radio Citizen, said his driving force for joining politics would be due to anger
at the bare minimum he said he feels the present crop of Kenyan leaders give
the country's citizens.
The TV host and Corporate MC expressed support
for other famous musicians, media personalities and public figures that are
priming up for a run in next year’s elections.
“I will join politics at the right opportune
time. I am very angry and I feel a lot of pain because Kenyans are being given
a raw deal. At the moment, I am looking to support like-minded aspirants,
despite which political party they run with,” said Dr Ofweneke.
“If you ask me, I think it is a good thing
because artistes are regarded as the mirrors of the society. It is therefore up
to us to see the issues that we are going through as Kenyans. We have sung them
in our songs but nothing has happened, so why not get into the elective seats
and instill the change that we are talking about?”
Dr Ofweneke proceeded to call on more entertainment
industry stalwarts to line up to join the political arena, but only with the
purpose of serving the people and not as a back-up plan.
“I am encouraging a lot of our artistes to
come out and join politics. The only issue I am going to have is artistes
getting into politics as a fall back plan - when you feel like probably your
brand has started to fade out,” he said.
The popular comedian lauded fellow entertainers Jalang’o, who joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to vie for the
Lang’ata Parliamentary seat, as well as MC Jessy, who is eyeing the
South Imenti Parliamentary seat.
“I am very confident in the likes of
comedians MC Jessy and Jalang’o, having worked close with them and
understanding their vision. Those two gentlemen are very passionate about the
people they want to represent,” he stated.
“We are looking for leaders who have a
conscious mind and are passion-based in terms of delivery. Getting in there,
know that you will have sworn before God and man, promising to make an effect
into the lives of the people you serve.”
