Kenyan trio Kiu unleashes fresh club-banger Shugli

After wowing fans on the urban live circuit with their silky vocals, Kenyan all-girl group Kiu has released an upbeat new single: Shugli.

The video, which was dropped Tuesday, features the trio’s signature harmonies atop a cheery track that infuses elements of Kwaito and EDM.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, band manager Ndohho Wohoro explained that the girl group took an afro-pop direction with this new song in a bid to relate to a broader fan base.

“Kiu has been together for about three and a half years now, and most of this time they have done mainly live music-more soulful and musical. With this new album, we wanted to have a fun youthful sound, something that Kenyan fans can relate to,” said Wohoro.

Tracy Barkhita, Rosa Nkatha and Pauline Ayuko give a vibrant performance on the video, flanked by excellently choreographed all-male dance crew.

The song, which is the first off their upcoming album, was produced by acclaimed Kenyan musician and producer Jaaz Odongo.

The band, which went through Sauti Academy, has previously released Mwanake and a soulful rendition of Davido’s Aye.
