Kenyans blast CS Namwamba for always inserting his image on posters congratulating athletes

Kenyans have expressed their dissatisfaction with Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba's tendency to always include his face on official posters celebrating a Kenyan athlete's victory in whichever field.

For a while now, keen Kenyans have noticed that the Sports CS's image always appears juxtaposed next to that of a Kenyan athlete as the Ministry rolls out posters celebrating the athlete's wins, usually accompanied by pompous congratulatory messages.

The trend, which many are starting to find utterly nauseating, was repeated yet again after the CS shared a poster congratulating Kenyan middle-distance runner Hellen Obiri after successfully defending her Boston Marathon title.

"Congrats to Hellen Obiri for spearheading a Kenyan sweep and successfully defending her #BostonMarathon title," the tweet read.

While Obiri's ebullient photo rightfully takes up a good chunk of the poster, the CS's social media team still inserted Namwamba's image at the left corner of the poster - he's seen appearing to address a gathering, holding onto a microphone.

Kenyans immediately blasted the CS for the unnecessary inclusion of his likeness, many accusing him of stealing the shine from the rightful individuals.

X user @Kadalit kicked off the condemnation, wondering, "WHY IS HE ON THE POSTER?"

On his part, user Anthony Ngugi said, "So, why are you on the poster? Did you run too? Were you even in Boston when she won that marathon!? Will you also be on the poster when, say, Sauti Sol wins a Grammy Award?"

Someone else put a hilarious spin into the affair, invoking Tanzanian legend TID, asking, "Why between her poster you are passing around!?"

Namwamba's affinity to fix himself into athletic victory was first roundly called out during the Safari Rally conclusion weekend when he shared a poorly-designed poster featuring himself sneaking behind President William Ruto.

He wrote: "We did it Bossie @WilliamsRuto. Best WRC Safari Rally ever. Ahsanteni waKenya wapendwa, thank you world for adding shine to #MagicalKenya!"

Then, many Kenyans called him out for the myriad of woes which plagued the 2024 World Rally Championship (WRC) including poor event management and disastrous handling of human resource.
