Metro Guy! The unlikely star of the FIFA World Cup is Kenyan Abubakr Abbass

As unlikely football stars continue to emerge and smaller countries continue to humiliate renowned football giants, there's still a lot more going on at the World Cup 2022 side-lines.

One of the breakout stars of the Qatar World Cup is a Kenyan Tiktoker going by the name "fifametroguy" who has now captured the attention of the world after his antics towards soccer fans went viral online.

The Kenyan Tiktoker, whose real name is Abubakr Abass, has gained a massive following online for his act of directing fatigued football fans to the Metro station.

Thousands have been mesmerised by the young Kenyan whose geniality and kindness at work have earned him widespread attention.

In one of the videos he has shared on Tiktok, the "Fifa Metro Guy" is seen welcoming fans while asking them to feel free to take photos and videos with him.

In the videos, he appears perched atop a lifeguard-esque chair, with a foam finger in one hand and a megaphone in another shouting "metro, metro, metro" to the passing crowds.

Despite the efforts involved, the "Metro Guy" does it all for free. "I don't charge anything, I love my job," he says.

Tiktok is now littered with countless videos of excited fans spotted leaning into his iconic megaphone attempting to replicate his popular catchphrase.

Others can be seen in the streets, lifting up one of their members horizontally while swaying him saying, "Metro... This way".

His efforts caught the eye of top FIFA officials who, in a video he posted two days ago, can be seen gifting him tons of gifts ranging from football jerseys to bags and other sealed items.

"For the first time in my life, I received a gift, thank you Tiktok, thank you my office," he captioned the video.

The Metro Guy's fame further shot when he was invited by FIFA officials to a jam-packed stadium before England and the USA game kicked off.

While on the pitch, he took the mic and went" Metro.... ", while the enthusiastic crowd, numbering into the tens of thousands, responded in unison.

The Metro Guy, we have further learned is originally from Mombasa and has been living in Qatar as a casual labourer.

Top international media houses have reported on his unlikely fame including top Middle East news Channel, Al Jazeera.
