Nicola Traldi charged over alleged assault on girlfriend Chantal Grazioli
Comedian Eric Omondi’s ex-girlfriend Chantal
Grazioli’s boyfriend Nicola Traldi was on Tuesday arraigned and charged for
alleged assault.
Traldi appeared before Kiambu Law Courts
Principal Magistrate Grace Omodho and was charged with causing Chantal grievous bodily
harm.
He however pleaded not guilty to the charges
and was freed on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.
Chantal’s lawyer James Kihara told the court that
the suspect’s family has allegedly been trying to reach her, to the extent of
going to her personal residence. This, he said, has forced Chantal to vacate
her home fearing for her life.
“The relatives of the accused person,
including the mother, have been going to Chantal’s house as late as 9:30pm and
have repeatedly texted her in an attempt to meet her. Fearing for her life, she
has vacated her premises and is now in a secure location,” said Kihara.
The court as a result issued a restraining
order against Traldi and his family, barring them from contacting Chantal.
The accused’s lawyer, Oscar Odindo, assured the
court that his client will avail himself and has no intention of
absconding court.
He further added that he (Traldi) is eager to have his
side of the story heard, not through social media, but the proper legal channels.
The mentioning of the case was set for July 7,
2022 and hearing on September 13, 2022.
Traldi
was arrested after self-declared president of comedy in Africa Eric Omondi last
week called him out for allegedly physically abusing Chantal.
Eric
on Friday took to his Instagram to share a video of Chantal limping due to the
injuries allegedly caused by Traldi.
In
the video, he explained how Chantal’s boyfriend broke into her house after she
tried to restrain from him getting in.
“Any
man who puts his hands on a woman is a coward! Nicola Traldi is a coward. He is
weak and insecure. A man’s strength is fully shown when he protects a woman and
not when he puts his hands on her,” wrote Eric.
“This
is unacceptable and he will face his full wrath of the law! He will serve as an
example to all those uncouth, uncivilized, and primitive men who physically
assault women to feel they are strong.”
Following
the allegations, Traldi came out to defend himself claiming he was innocent of
the crime he is being accused of, further adding that he was being framed.
“I
have been framed for something I would never do, unspeakable. It’s a sad day. I
would never lay my hands on a lady, I am a father of 2 daughters,” he said.
“Everyone
who knows me knows I am incapable of such a thing. My mum taught me well. The
truth shall come out.”
