The energy-packed Kwambox, who normally hypes up her listeners by posting short clips online of her bouncy arrival as she dances along to an upbeat song and speaks directly to the camera, on January 17 posted a video which left a zesty taste in the mouths of many after she appeared to brush off the macabre killing and dismemberment of a 20-year old woman by an alleged Nigerian man along TRM Drive.
The nationality of the killer(s) is yet to be confirmed.
While singing and dancing along to popular Afrobeat banger 'Gwagwalada', done by Nigerian singers BNXN and Kizz Daniels, Kwambox briefly turned down the volume to make her thoughts clear - "Listen... Even if you guys are not feeling Nigerians this week, I don't care!" she declared.
While proceeding to shout 'Kapoww' - her hype motto - Kwambox went ahead to double down on her sentiments, adding, "Remember this year we said we are being fearless, so whatever you think you're avoiding..."
Kiss FM has since deleted the video after the barrage of views and concerns raised by the video.
Kwamboka's decision to insert the insensitive view into her short promotional monologue rubbed a huge section of Kenyans the wrong way, especially coming at a time when all the mainstream media - and Kenyans at large - was solely focused on the claims that a Nigerian man may have killed and carted off with the head of his female victim.
Many interpreted Kwamboka's sentiments as a cavalier dismissal of a gruesome murder which had rocked the country and sent shivers down the spines of millions of people.
Many were particularly appalled that her employer had let the offending video stay online for the entire day - and the fact that no apology seemed forthcoming from the celebrated radio star or her bosses.
On X, the conversation got heated up with many comparing it to the incident which led to the sacking of former radio presenter Shaffie Weru alongside two others for expressing similar thoughts on yet another femicide case.
One displeased X user said, "At a time when Kenyans are praying for justice for the TRM girl, who it has been reported was killed by a Nigerian man, Kwambox went on LIVE radio to say, "Even if you are not feeling Nigerians right now, I don't care!" Really Kwambox? A 20-year-old girl was killed and that's what you've got to say? You're a woman! A woman Kwambox! What if her family are your fans? What if they listen to Kiss FM? Did you even think about that?"
On his part, X influencer @Wafunya offered, "Watch Kiss 100 downplay the whole Kwambox shenanigans by making her have a conversation on the show on how people on the internet are always quick to react to things for clout. They might even call you people jobless and bitter with nothing else to do than tweet. Women privilege!"
Gathoni Kanja, another irked listener, said, "It's so sad that a woman got to say these words. It's actually shocking! We've been crying about femicide since the start of the year and someone thinks our thoughts about Nigerians at this point in time don't matter!?? And a woman at that!? This is beyond gross! This is purely wicked! Shaffie Weru didn't deserve what he got!
In March 2021, then Homeboyz Radio presenter Shaffie Weru, his co-host Neville Musya and veteran DJ Joe Mfalme were all sacked after appearing to trivialise femicide.
Trouble started when a video recording of them making insensitive sentiments on the plight of Eunice Wangari Wakimbi, who was pushed off the 12th floor of a building by a man she met on Facebook surfaced online.
