Rufftone re-appointed Korea’s Goodwill Ambassador
Gospel singer Roy Smith Mwatia better known Rufftone has been re-appointed Republic of Korea’s goodwill ambassador for public diplomacy.
Rufftone, who will be getting a diplomatic passport, previously held the post which entailed making Korean culture and lifestyle known in Kenya and East Africa as well as expand public understanding of a broad range of cultural initiatives that Korea engages in.
The Mungu Baba hitmaker was feted in an official ceremony hosted at the Korean Embassy in Nairobi. The embassy official, Ki-Jun YOU, handed Rufftone his appointment letter.
YOU said the reason the Korean embassy re-appointed the legendary singer to the post was because of the role he played in influencing Kenyan youth positively and due to the passion for the task he (Rufftone) showed the previous year.
Rufftone described the appointment as a “golden opportunity. I want to demystify this role from it being a paper work kind of position to an action-oriented one.”
“Many Kenyan youth have potential in many facets of society from sports to entrepreneurship to leadership to arts and culture. I will be looking for ways to marry this with Korean culture during my two-year contract,” he said.
Rufftone will travel to Korea for a week.
As is trademark with holders of diplomatic passports, the top gospel act will enjoy privileges like no tax- liability on income from outside the host country and red-carpet treatment by international state administrations.
He will also not be subject to time delaying and annoying customs checks, a chance to meet top–ranking government officials and heads of state, among other dispensations.
