Kenyan boy-band Sauti Sol has announced that they will soon release a collaborative track which is aimed at encouraging the youth to vote in the upcoming polls.

Lying on the backdrop of their ongoing series 'Tujiangalie', the band said that the project was informed by the voter apathy among the youth and they would want to inform them on the importance of participating in the voting exercise.

The series itself is titled after the band's 2018 hit song 'Tujiangalie' , which tackled such sociopolitical issues as debt, corruption, democracy, religion and social media.

"What we are trying to have here is to get young people to join the conversation about what is happening and how it will affect us. We have so much power but we are not utilizing it. We want to be the catalyst of conversations and then after that change comes," said Sauti Sol's legal advisor Moriasi Ombambia.

The band's lead vocalist Bien Aime on his part said that the project will help to bring to light the message they have always intended to advocate, that of educating the youth on their significance as the nation transitions its leadership.

"There was always a passion from Sauti Sol and the team to speak to the broader audience of the voter which are the youth," said Bien.

"The amount of voter apathy that we are about to experience as a nation if we don't wake up that morning to go to the ballot is going to be the highest ever," he added.

Bien remained optimistic that the song will achieve its goal, urging his fans to utilize their power to choose their leaders through voting.

"To our fans I really hope the message of this song gets to you, you understand it and changes your perception. And as you go to vote remember don't let the same snake bite you twice," he said.

The project has incorporated an eclectic mix of artists among them Khaligraph Jones, Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller, Brandy Maina, Maandy, Wakadinali and Buruklyn Boyz.

"In choosing the team to get the music done, it was important for us to choose artists who have the ears of the masses, who have a fanbase that speaks their message to the public and haven't been afraid to speak out theuir minds when issues arise," Ombambia explained the criteria used in choosing the team.

‘Tujiangalie’ has already kicked off with a collaboration with award-winning rapper Khaligraph Jones on the song “In My Head.”

Girls On Top”, released earlier this week, is an ode to women empowerment and features Brandy Maina and Maandy.
