South African 'News anchor' who broke down on live TV is a comedian

South African News Anchor who appeared to lose his cool while hosting a news segment before emotionally breaking down is a stand-up comedian, Citizen Digital has learnt.

The 'news anchor' could be seen crying in a live broadcast as he spoke about the rising prices of petrol in his country, according to the video, which went viral across social media platforms on March 1, 2022.

Mr G is a content creator from Villiersdorp in the Western Cape province of South Africa, and goes by the handle 'therealmisturghee' on Tik Tok and Instagram.

Mr G, who has 104 000 Tiktok followers and 75000 Facebook followers, also has a virtual studio where he pretends to be a news anchor to entertain his fans.

He uses MGP NEWS, a comedy station, to highlight his personal take on current events in a lighthearted manner.

His comedy has been compared to that of Fredrick Omondi, better known by his stage name Dr Kingori, the host of NTV's Wicked Edition, and Esther Kazungu in Kenya.

Netizens consoled him in the video, which received over 300,000 likes, while others related to his story as they compared rising prices across the African continent.

Many people on the internet appeared to be unaware that Mr G is a comedian. Here are some of the Twitter responses.

“Well, it looks like the rising petrol prices are making news anchorman burst into uncontrollable tears. At least in SA,” Gabby Otchere-Darko wrote.

"If you guys had not used petroleum for politics in the past, we wouldn't be where we are now,” King Larwerson said.

Kwame Antwi: “He is crying live on set and you think their living conditions are better.. Some of you tho.”

“Sad it has affected all over the world,” Lucy Ruto stated.

“Life is very hard to low class people to some African countries,” Kimaro said.

"Learn to use other means. Electric and solar and the next fuels. So unnecessary from him."
