Spotify has just handed the aux cord back
to its users—virtually.
In a
major update rolled out on Tuesday,
Spotify Premium subscribers across more than 60 markets can now make voice
requests directly to the platform’s AI-powered DJ feature. That’s right: your
playlist just got a lot more obedient.
The move
adds a whole new layer of interactivity to the personalized DJ experience
launched last year, turning passive listening into a dynamic, real-time musical
journey.
“Listeners
asked for more ways to interact with DJ and enjoy more control over their
listening sessions – and now you can!” said Spotify in the announcement.
To make
a request, users need only head to the search tab on Spotify, type ‘DJ’, hit
play—and the music maestro is at your service.
Want to shake off the blues with some
upbeat bangers? Craving indie deep cuts that sound like the soundtrack to your
mysterious main character energy? Just press and hold the DJ button, wait for a
beep, and speak your musical desires into existence.
Spotify
says the DJ uses AI, backed by global editorial expertise, to serve up a
curated mix that’s as unique as your mood swings.
The system already knows what you’ve been
vibing to—and now it can shift gears on your command.
Some of
Spotify’s suggested voice prompts include:
- “Play
me some electronic beats for a midday run”
- “Surprise
me with some indie tracks I’ve never heard before”
- “Play
music to soundtrack my life as a movie”
- “Play
modern country songs for my cowboy era”
And if
you're feeling indecisive, you can always tap the DJ button to skip to the next
musical chapter—no words needed.
This
latest feature reflects Spotify’s continued investment in personalization and
AI, aiming to make music discovery more intuitive—and more human.
