Three-day NGO International Film Festival kicks off in Nairobi
The NGO International Film Festival (NGOIFF)
held its opening ceremony on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Trademark Hotel
in Nairobi.
In attendance during the ceremony were
festival participants, film makers and the festival partners.
Speaking on behalf of this year’s festival jurors,
journalist John-Allan Namu said; “Our being is affected as we speak and the NGO
International Film Festival is a means for us to sit and consider how the
actions of a few people is effecting change in the globe.”
Other members of the jury include; Christian
Clark (USA), Onome Ako (Nigeria), Natalie Kyriacou (Australia), Nelly Ben
Hayoun-Stépanian (France), Danee Hamaza (French Polynesia), Rania Al Jabban (Syria),
and Lance Gould (USA).
Judy Ogana, UNESCO, National Programme
Officer for Culture, said: “We applaud the NGO International Film Festival as
its aspiration and objectives resonate with those of UNESCO from the
perspective of growing the industry and the appreciation of film as an
effective tool of communication and harnessing critical contribution to the
attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
“In supporting the development of the film
sector, UNESCO urges policy makers, government agencies, professional
organisations, film makers and artists to play their part in growing it and calls
to all stakeholders to contribute to the enhancement of African culture.”
‘The Last Stand,’ an Ecoflix original film
directed by Peter Von Puttkamer and Executive Produced by David Casselman and
Peter Von Puttkamer, will have its world premiere as an opening film at the NGOIFF
opening ceremony.
The festival will run for 3 days and conclude
on Friday, October 21 with a closing ceremony/gala dinner.
