Why former Tahidi High star is apologising to the slain Chelele

Former Tahidi High actress, Barbra Chepkoech, has eulogized slain Kalenjin singer Diana ‘Chelele’ Musila, recounting the many memories she had with the popular entertainer.

In an emotional 1,300 word long Facebook post, Chepkoech mourns the death of the vibrant singer who was on Saturday found murdered in her rural home.

Chepkoech, popular for her role on Citizen TV’s Waridi and Tahidi High, recounts her first encounter with Chelele saying, “When I first met Chelele, I was humbled that she had taken one of my songs and made it into her own… I was not mad but humbled at her creativity.”

The two soon became fast friends, and within no time they were performing together at Kalenjin theme nights across the country.

The mother of three describes Chelele as a spritely individual with a radiant personality, “(She was a) spicy little mama with an attitude to match. She was vibrant and beautiful.”

As it often happens, the two drifted apart with time. Chepkoech left the Kenyan entertainment scene and relocated to the United States.

After news of her friend’s brutal murder broke, the Waridi actress says she was grieved, and she regretted that time and distance drove a wedge between her and the Binti Osama singer.

“We went on different paths…life happened…. I was far and I am guilty of that. I ask myself a lot of what ifs. I am scared because I know-I have been down that path. It’s never ok…”

Apologizing to her late friend for not being there a grief-stricken Chepkoech said, “So sorry Chelele…I am so sorry Diana.”

Having recently given birth to twins, the former actress expressed concern about the late singer’s children, adding that she would like to offer them assistance.

“How do I reach your babies? As a mother I cry for them. I would love to help because I know the pain of your child being taken from you. I know the fear of not being able to protect and be there for them. As mothers we go through that,” wrote Chepkoech.

The former actress also took the time to touch on the thorny issue of domestic violence, an issue that her late friend had grappled with in recent times.

Admitting that she too had been a victim of domestic violence, she said, “Domestic violence is all over… speak out. I have been there and I thank God for being here today and able to share that it is best to leave.

She advised victims of such violence not to stay in such abusive relationships, urging them to reach out for help.

“It never gets better. If someone hits you once he will hit you again and again and finally kill you. Think of your children…your loved ones… your life…Say something and let’s not encourage anyone being abused to stay. No! Leave before it’s too late. Mapenzi ya fujo haifai,” concluded the actress.

Chelele’s body was discovered by a family member on Saturday, and it had deep stab wounds in the abdominal area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Police boss Abel Sande said that the cause of death is murder, but no suspects had been identified as of yet.
