'You guy my guy' comedian, George Kagwe recalls the conversation with his late dad that changed his life

The social media personality went down memory lane, recalling how his father, Job Kagwe Ngunjiri, died of cancer after several hospital visits..
“November 2011 found me shuttling my dad and mum, to and fro MP Shah Hospital. I was 26 years old at the time. I had taken time off from my busy schedule at work, unpaid for that matter. My dad had been diagnosed with gall bladder cancer in September of the same year. We were now in the chemotherapy phase of his treatment
During his hospital visits, the comedian said he felt compelled to have more in-depth conversations with his parents, so he confronted his father after he decided to sell the family home a month before he was diagnosed with cancer.
“In August, I was a witness to the sale of our family home. My father had thus far received a deposit for the same. I had developed this urge to have deep conversations with my parents about anything and everything. I then asked my dad what his plan was with the funds he was going to receive from the sale of the home.
Kagwe's father responded by telling him about his plans to build the family a new home and buy his dream car..
“He went on to tell me how he planned to build some apartments, making one of them our family home as he and my mum managed the rest. He finished off the tale by narrating how he would walk into the showroom and purchase a brand-spanking-new Mercedes E class.The Full Stack Global Marketing Leader then asked his father why he wanted a brand new expensive car, to which his father replied that he wanted to enjoy something he had always wished for..
“To quench my thirst and need to know why, I further went on to ask him the reasons behind him wanting a brand new star of David. He responded by saying, “I have worked so hard in my life, sacrificed so much for good reasons. Now, I want to enjoy and get the things I have always wanted to get”
George reminisced about his late father's upbringing and past, noting that his father's words had stayed with him ever since.e.
“Don’t get me wrong. My parents worked hard and sacrificed a lot for my siblings and I to be where we are today. However, that statement by my dad on that rainy day of November 2011, has stayed with me ever since
Kagwe admitted that he was depressed after his father died, but he also acknowledged that the conversation he had with his father shaped who he is today.im.
“After his death on the 5th of Dec 2011, I went into depression and a crisis of purpose and meaning in life. However, I am who I am today because of that conversation with my dad. On Sunday it will be 10 years since he left us. I am sure he would be proud of me.”
