The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) is setting its sights on the Kenyan market, calling on travel-hungry Kenyans to consider the Caribbean island of Barbados as their next international escape.

At an exclusive media event held at Kwetu by Hilton in Nairobi on Wednesday, BTMI—alongside the Barbados High Commission—rolled out a warm Bajan welcome to local journalists and travel stakeholders, showcasing the island’s colourful culture, stunning beaches, and rich heritage as the ultimate destination for Kenyan globetrotters.

“We were delighted to connect with Kenya's media community to share the wonders of Barbados,” said Kyle Gittens, Director of Emerging Markets at BTMI, who led the delegation at the event.

Accompanying Mr. Gittens were Alexander W. McDonald, High Commissioner of Barbados to Kenya, Rwanda & Tanzania, and Jovan Reid, Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission at the High Commission of Barbados.

The team emphasized the strengthening ties between Kenya and Barbados and underscored the island's readiness to host curious Kenyan travellers.

During his presentation, Mr. Gittens painted a vivid picture of what awaits in Barbados—world-class golf courses like Sandy Lane Golf Club and Royal Westmoreland, both crafted by acclaimed architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., and a culinary experience that fuses African, European, and Caribbean traditions. He especially highlighted the famed Oistins Fish Fry as a must-visit for any food-loving tourist.

“Barbados offers Kenyan travelers a rich cultural experience with our vibrant Crop Over Festival, historic plantation houses, and UNESCO World Heritage site in Bridgetown,” noted Mr. Gittens.

“Our pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters, luxury accommodations, and the famous Barbadian hospitality make it a perfect getaway for Kenyan travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure.”

Besides sun, sand, and sumptuous food, the island also boasts a safe, English-speaking environment, and a familiar left-side driving system—small but significant comforts for the Kenyan tourist.

With connections through major international gateways, the journey to Barbados takes approximately eight hours, making it a viable option for those ready to stretch their passport stamps.

With over 100 restaurants, year-round sunshine ranging between 24-29°C, and a spread of accommodations from high-end resorts to intimate boutique villas, Barbados is rolling out the beach towel for Kenyans in search of a premium island getaway.
