Food, music galore as first ever Pikika Brunch Festival goes down
The first-ever Pikika Brunch festival went
down over the weekend as hundreds of foodies, music-lovers and thrill-seekers
thronged the Invergara Gardens for an afternoon of music, barbecue and dance.
Organized by Drustar Alliance and Angel
Khayusi, the event brought together chefs gathered from a pool of popular
online kitchens including HD's Kitchen, The Cherry Tomato and Mulunda's
Kitchen.
Guests started arriving as early as 11am on Saturday as
Holy Dave (of HD's Kitchen) and his crew made a grand entry before cooking up
meals for the entire afternoon.
Mista Dru, DJ M-JAY, DJ Gatmo and DJ Panik
kept revelers on their feet as MC Stano kept the hype high and the mood lively.
"The event was basically an ode to local
chefs, everyday chefs to come and showcase their culinary skills. The
organizers had the option of going for the top city restaurants but instead
opted to pick out self-made chefs making a name online,” Holy Dave, the
proprietor of HD's Kitchen, said.
“Everyone loves food and this was the perfect
opportunity to bring together Nairobians of all walks of life and have them
sample the best of what we had to offer from our kitchens.”
He added: "Initially, we were supposed
to be five cooks but two couldn't make it owing to other conflicting
commitments. All in all, the crowd exceeded our expectations as we had over 600
people trooping to the venue even though we had only anticipated at least 300
people."
The setup, beautifully done by Rubi Events,
became one of the event's most talked about features with many revelers
commending the look and feel of the venue.
According to the event organisers, Pikika Brunch will be a recurring event and another one is slated for later this year.
