Gucci launches new Ksh.190K umbrella, but it doesn’t actually protect you from the rain
Global
high-end fashion house Gucci has collaborated with sportswear giant Adidas to
co-create a new luxury umbrella.
But,
get this, the umbrella doesn’t even do the one job umbrellas are supposed to
do; protect one from the rain.
That’s
right!
The
two global companies - arguably the biggest in their respective fields – put
their best and brightest brains together to come up with an umbrella, not for
the rain, but the sun.
According to the Gucci website, the umbrella is “not waterproof and is meant for sun
protection or decorative use.”
And
how much are you required to fork out for this brilliant new bad boy? Nothing much, just
about $1,644. Oh, for you Kenyans at the back, that’s Ksh.191,361.
The
news of the parasol has elicited much public uproar, especially in China, where a BBC report
says that one user called it “a very
big but useless fashion statement.”
A
Gucci spokesperson, while confirming that the product is set for release on
June 7, reportedly told a Chinese media outlet that it is “not recommended for use as an everyday umbrella"
but can pass as “a daily accessory."
