List of Top 10 Fashion Schools Released

As much as we want to convince ourselves that school ranking is unnecessary, the ranking of the best fashion schools was bound to happen.

It makes sense since we have an outpour of musicians, actors and public figures coming up literally everyday and these celebrities must be dressed, right? Who better to do this than the highly trained fashion designers who went to the best schools?

Having recognised the role of fashion in society and its place in the education system, The Business of Fashion, recently released a list of the top fashion schools based on global influence, learning experience and long-term value.

This list will certainly be a game-changer for the schools in terms of admissions because some of the schools that were considered the best such as The Royal College of Art, which has produced famous designers such as Chloe, did not appear in the top 10 list. The top 10 schools included the following:

  1. Central Saint Martins, (London: UK)
  2. Bunka Fashion College, (Tokyo: Japan)
  3. Kingston University, (London: UK)
  4. Parsons the New School of Fashion, (New York: US)
  5. Fashion Institute of Technology, (New York: US)
  6. Polimoda, (Florence: Italy)
  7. University of Westminster, (London: UK)
  8. London College of Fashion, (London: UK)
  9. Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, (Melbourne: Australia)
  10. Drexel University (Philadelphia: US)

It is clear from this list that fashion schools in the UK are the top choices for prospective fashion students.

The fashion schools ranking will help prospective students made better informed choices when picking a school to pursue their fashion career, as well as get the schools to improve their curriculum and course offerings.

Coming back home, I would say, a student wishing to pursue a course in Fashion has a lot of institutions to choose from (unlike a few year back) including Nairobi University, Kenyatta University, and Mcensal School of Fashion and design among others.

Let’s hope that more institutions specialising in fashion will come up and make to The Business of Fashion’s list of the top fashion schools in the world.
