Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has made a strong appeal to the Mt. Kenya region and the nation at large to turn away from divisive and violent politics and instead embrace leadership grounded in ideas, delivery, and national unity.

Speaking in Maragwa during the Maragwa Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme, the DP emphasized the importance of maintaining peace.

“We have had political differences since 1992, but there has never been destruction of property and violence,” he said.

Kindiki’s remarks come at a time when the political climate in the region has shown signs of internal friction, with rivals competing for influence and attention. He warned that such divisions will undo progress and slow down development.

The Deputy President called on Kenyans to rise above wrangles and focus on transformative leadership. He urged them to focus on real issues such as youth employment, agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure, not personality clashes or regional supremacy.

“Let us embrace peaceful politics. The real contest should be; who has a better agenda for Kenyans? Our people deserve leaders who will bring development, not empty slogans or street fights,” he added.

Highlighting the government’s development agenda, Kindiki highlighted ongoing projects under President Ruto’s administration, including the construction of roads in rural areas, expansion of electricity access, the County Aggregation Industrial Park in Makenji and the the Special Economic Zone at Delmonte.

These projects aim to boost agro-processing, trade, and job creation, especially for young people and women.

He also emphasized ongoing efforts in affordable housing, modern market infrastructure, and the national roll-out of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which now covers over 24.8 million Kenyans.

“We will fine tune every problem to see that every Kenyan has access to affordable health care through SHA. This will help reduce the burden of out-of-pocket medical costs,” he assured.

As the Deputy President continues to position himself as a voice of reason and unity within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, his call for development-centered politics in Mt Kenya is resonating.

With the region’s strategic influence in national politics, Kindiki’s message could help shift the region and the country towards more peaceful, development-driven politics.
