0ver 4000 households displaced as floods wreak havoc across the country

Over 4,000 households have been displaced following relentless torrents of rain pounding most parts of the country.

The Kenya Red Cross reports nearly 20,000 households affected by the deluge, leaving devastation in its wake.

Particularly hard-hit are areas like Nairobi, where rising waters along the Ngong and Nairobi Rivers have resulted in flash floods, wreaking havoc in communities of Kware, Kibra, Viwandani, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, and Mukuru Kwa Reuben. In Tana River, the swelling river has caused panic among the residents who have been cautioned to move to safer grounds before tragedy struck.

In the wake of heavy downpours across the country, the aftermath is visible in Thigoko area of Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga county. Scores of households stand submerged, displacing hundreds of residents as relentless rainfall continues to wreak havoc.

Janet Murimi, a resident, expressed the dire situation: "There are no homes, nowhere to sleep, and no food to eat... At seven in the evening, we woke each other up to save ourselves from the downpour..."

Chief Peter Mutugi confirmed the nighttime evacuation efforts, stating, "We relocated people overnight..."

Devastated residents, displaced by the floods, now confront the looming threat of hunger, urgently appealing to the government for essential relief provisions.

Harrison Gicira, another affected resident, lamented, "We don't know where others are... We managed to save a few people... Now food will be a challenge..."

In Mukuru Kwa Reuben, residents are on the brink of disaster amidst relentless downpours ravaging the country.

Bridges in this densely populated slum have been swept away, with the only remaining bridge posing a threat to thousands relying on it.

Alice Kimeu, a resident of Mukuru Kwa Reuben, described the dire situation, "Now it's a struggle to get around to Kingstone... Even now, we fear crossing because our belongings have been carried away... It's a real struggle getting around to Kingstone..."

Evans Onyego, another resident, highlighted concerns about the precarious state of the bridge, saying, "They are only looking at the bridge... When we need help, they wait for disasters to occur before responding..."

In Karen, the aftermath of Sunday's torrential rainfall is evident, with submerged households and shattered walls, a trail of destruction caused by the deluge of floods.

In Garissa, the swelling Tana River brings apprehension to Madogo residents, fearing displacement and loss as water levels rise.

The precarious state of the road between Madogo and Garissa, coupled with alarming flood levels, signals imminent danger, with communities in Tana River-Assa sub-location already marooned.

The Red Cross reports a widespread impact, with 16 counties affected, 17,445 households impacted, and 4,639 households displaced.
