11 Kanjuri High school students arrested over arson attack

Police in Karatina, Nyeri County have arrested 11 students from Kanjuri High School after they set another dormitory of fire on Friday night destroying property worth Ksh.800,000.

The students are accused of razing down a dormitory housing a total of 98 beds at the dorm by the name Jubilee.

The students some of whom were found in possession of bhang are being detained at Kiamachibi and Kiamariga police stations.

Following the attack the institution has been closed indefenitly to evade more damage.

Trouble at the school started Friday morning when some students set on fire a dorm protesting lack of mid-term break this term.

The attack was however foiled by authorities who immediately alerted fire brigade from Karatina who put out the fire before it could cause massive damage.

After a meeting the school authorities, however, retained students but on Friday evening they set another one on fire prompting the school closure.

Several students some without uniforms were seen on Saturday morning boarding at bus termini heading home.

Mathira East Police Commander James Barasa confirmed the arrest of the students saying they will be arraigned on Monday  to face arson charges.
