12 doctors among 19 who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nyeri

12 doctors are among 19 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nyeri County.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga said this now brings the number of people with coronavirus in the county to 41.

As of Monday, data from the Health Ministry indicates distribution of coronavirus cases in counties as follows:

Health CAS Rashid Aman said Baringo, West Pokot and Samburu are the only counties have not reported any cases of coronavirus.

“Nairobi and Mombasa counties continue to record highest attack rates of COVID-19 at 176.1 and 151.9 per 100,000 population respectively compared to 28.1 per 100,000 for the rest of the country,” Dr. Aman said.

Kenya has so far reported 13,771 cases of the virus, 5,616 recoveries and 238 deaths.

On July 10, Kenya lost its first doctor to the disease: 38-year-old Dr. Doreen Lugaliki.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) said the she contracted the virus while at work, reiterating on the need for the government to protect frontline workers.
