15 orphaned children go missing in Kiambu

Fifteen children have gone missing while 35 others spent the night at Kikuyu police station’s children department after the orphanage school where they were hosted in Nderi Town, Kikuyu closed indefinitely under unclear circumstances.

The 15, out of the 60 children who resided in the orphanage are said to have ran away when police came into their premises to evict them after they were served with a court order late Tuesday.

Nderi residents now say they spent the whole night searching for the missing children and were only able to get six who were hiding in a bush near the school while others are said to have walked home to their relatives who are yet to confirm their arrival.

Police say they are waiting for the children’s department to advice.

Meanwhile, efforts to transfer them to another children’s home in Kiambu are underway.

The school was run by a family but after the death of their father, who was the director, the widow is said to have had plans of selling the property hence the court order to evict the children.
