17 people killed in separate road accidents
In just a day, 17 people perished in separate
road accidents in five counties.
Six people, among them two children, died in
Isiolo town after a truck which lost control crashed into three shops.
Twelve people were injured in the crash and are
receiving treatment at Isiolo Referral Hospital.
Witnesses said the trailer was on high speed
before it crashed.
In Nyamira, five people perished and four
others were injured after a matatu they were traveling in hit a stationary trailer
in Nyamoke along the Kisii-Nyamira road. Four people were injured.
In the neighbouring Kisii County, one matatu
driver died after his vehicle was involved in an accident along the Migori-Kisii
road.
The body has since been moved to Kisii Teaching
and Referral Hospital morgue.
In Nakuru County, four people died after
their car hit a lorry ferrying sand in Kinungi area.
Witnesses said the driver of the saloon car
was trying to overtake the lorry when the accident occurred.
The driver of the lorry has since recorded
statement with the police.
One person has also died in a road accident
in Muraka along Kakamega-Kisumu road.
According to the National Transport and
Safety Authority (NTSA), 784 Kenyans have perished on the road between January
and February 27, 2022 compared to more than 100 within the same period last
year.
NTSA and the traffic department have launched
a countrywide traffic enforcement operations against rogue motorists to curb
the rising cases of road accidents.
