17 pupils, 4 teachers injured after school bus overturns in Kirinyaga
A school bus belonging to Njema Falls Academy
on Tuesday overturned at Kabare area on the Rukenya-Kimunye road in Gichugu,
Kirinyaga County, leaving 17 pupils and 4 teachers who were on board
injured.
Confirming the incident, Gichugu sub-county
Police Commander Anthony Mbogo said the bus was ferrying the pupils and their
teachers back to school when it lost control on the busy road.
Mbogo said Good Samaritans rushed to the
scene and helped pull the pupils and teachers out of the bus, upon which
they were taken to the Kerugoya Referral Hospital.
He said 15 pupils and the 4
teachers were treated and discharged, while two other pupils are still admitted
at the health facility.
The police boss further advised drivers to
drive carefully as the rain continues, adding that the school bus had
since been towed to Kianyaga Police Station awaiting inspection.
