18 dead after train, bus collide in Indonesia
A commuter train and a minibus collided in Indonesia‘s capital, Jakarta on Sunday (December 6), killing at least 18 people and injuring several, local media reported.
The driver of the minibus was among those killed, local media said.
An accident report by a fence guard cited by local media said the collision occured at a train intersection in western Jakarta around 8.48 a.m. local time (0148 GMT) when a mini-bus drove across the trainline despite a warning signal.
Minibus passengers injured in the collision were moved to nearby hospitals, local broadcaster Metro TV reported a police officer as saying.
An investigation was ongoing, local media added.
Train crashes and other transport incidents are relatively frequent in Indonesia, where infrastructure has strained to keep pace with population and economic growth.
